Spring 2022 Newsletter
I know many of you have been wondering what LoveHonduras has been doing since we canceled our planned in-person mission trip for May 2022. That was a very difficult decision, but the leadership team felt we could be better stewards of resources by supporting the poor in and around Siguetepeque by providing funds for projects instead of bringing our love and talent in person. We are committed to returning in person in 2023.
The first project we have supported is providing food bags for the undernourished in the Siguetepeque area. We provided 160 families bags of food. These families were identified as being in need by local churches, community organizations and community leaders. While resources allow, we plan to continue supporting Siguetepeque in this way.
Another project we support is providing rice and beans to some of the schools in the rural communities we visit. This can provide a nutritious lunch for children that might not otherwise have lunch. We provided 78 bags of rice beans this quarter. This is another long-term project we hope to continue to support, while we continue to receive donations to support this effort.
We are also supporting further renovations at a rural dental clinic. We were able to have the roof repaired, new sinks and toilets were installed, rotting doors were replaced, new lighting fixtures were installed, gutters were added to protect the building, 4 mirrors were installed, and French windows were fashioned from some existing windows.
Repair in Progress
Finally, we have an additional project that we would like to support – the refurbishment of Our Lady of Carmen Hemodialysis Shelter.
Our hope is to raise at least $2000 to support renovations including increasing water storage (water must be brought to the site, there is no running water), improving laundry facilities and improving the kitchen with the addition of an eco stove.
If you would like to donate to any of these projects, you can do so via the LoveHonduras Website or by sending a check to:
Grace Episcopal Church
6275 Camp Bullis Road
San Antonio, TX 78257
Many thanks to those of you that donate generously to support these efforts. Special thanks to the Episcopal Dioceses of West Texas, St. Johns New Braunfels and St. Andrews in Seguin, TX. Without their support, these projects would not have been possible.
